Mary Jo Harris
Mary Jo Harris became associated with the firm in February, 2005. She handles employment matters for both private and public sector clients, and has litigated cases at the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination, and Massachusetts State and Federal courts.
Prior to joining Morgan, Brown & Joy, Mary Jo was the Legal Advisor to the Boston Police Department, a position that she held for seven years. As Legal Advisor, Mary Jo represented the Department in all employment matters, including advising Internal Affairs during investigations of employee misconduct. Mary Jo also headed the multi-agency legal team advising State and Federal officials on security issues for the Democratic National Convention held in Boston in 2004.
Upon graduating law school, Mary Jo became an Assistant Corporation Counsel with the City of Boston Law Department, where she worked in the Litigation Bureau. At the Law Department, Mary Jo's practice included negligence, employment law, election law, first amendment and civil rights litigation. She went in to private practice in 1996, and was appointed Legal Advisor in 1998.
Mary Jo graduated from Kenyon College in 1986, and received her law degree from Northeastern University in 1992. She is a member of the Massachusetts bar, and is admitted to practice before the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts and the First Circuit Court of Appeals. She serves on the Executive Board of the Boston Inn of Court and the Federal Bar Association.
