Stacy L. Cowan
Stacy Cowan is a partner with the firm. Stacy provides advice and counsel to management, human resources professionals, and in-house counsel on all aspects of labor and employment issues including: hiring, background check procedures, performance management, job classifications, compensation plans, policy review, mergers and acquisitions, leaves of absence, internal investigations, reductions in force, terminations, non-solicitation/non-compete agreements, severance and settlement agreements. Stacy is an experienced litigator and represents clients in employment cases pending before state and federal courts and administrative agencies. Stacy is also a skilled negotiator and regularly helps clients resolve disputes either directly with opposing parties or through mediation.
Stacy was previously an associate with the firm from 1997-2003. She then left the firm to practice labor and employment law at Seyfarth Shaw LLP, and she also served as Corporate Employment Counsel with Fidelity Investments and Liberty Mutual Insurance Company, prior to rejoining the firm in 2010 as Of Counsel.
Stacy is a member of the bar of Massachusetts and is admitted to practice before the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts. She is a member of the American Bar Association (Labor and Employment Law Section), Massachusetts Black Lawyers Association, National Employment Law Council, and Corporate Counsel Women of Color, and the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce. Stacy is a certified trainer through the MCAD’s Certified Harassment and Discrimination Train-the-Trainer Courses.
Stacy is an active volunteer in the greater Boston communities and serves as a founding board member for Up Academy Charter School of Boston and Up Academy Charter School of Dorchester. Stacy also serves on WGBH’s Community Advisory Board, and is a member of the Board of Trustees for the Museum of Science.
Stacy is a graduate of Cornell University (B.S. 1994), and Northeastern University School of Law (J.D. 1997).
