Morgan, Brown & Joy’s Keith H. McCown Receives Cushing-Gavin Award for Exemplary Service to Labor Management Efforts in Massachusetts

Boston labor and employment law firm Morgan, Brown & Joy announces that attorney Keith H. McCown is the 2021 recipient of the prestigious Cushing-Gavin Award for exemplary service to labor management efforts in Massachusetts. McCown is the fourth Morgan, Brown & Joy attorney to win the Cushing-Gavin Management Award over the years. Former firm honorees include William F. Joy, Sr., Philip G. Boyle, and Robert P. Joy

McCown will be honored alongside Marjorie Wittner, Chair, Commonwealth of Massachusetts Employment Relations Board (Father Edward F. Boyle Award – Auxiliary Award); Joseph DeLorey, Esq., of Counsel, AFSCME Council 93 (Labor Award); and Joseph R. Nolan Jr., President, Chief Executive Officer, Eversource Energy (Management Award). All honorees will be honored virtually at the 55th Annual Cushing-Gavin Award Reception on December 3, 2021.

McCown said, “I am deeply honored to receive this award alongside an esteemed group of peers. The Boston Labor Guild plays an important role in improving workplaces across Massachusetts, and I have dedicated my practice to serving the labor management community.”

McCown has been involved with employment and labor law since his first professional job in 1975 at the National Labor Relations Board. This early labor law position helped to establish McCown as part of the solid core of attorneys at Morgan, Brown & Joy, with significant experience in traditional union-management labor law in the private and public sectors. He handles collective bargaining, grievances and arbitration, unfair labor practice proceedings, labor litigation, representation elections, and election campaigns.  He also advises and defends employers in virtually every type of employment law issue, including workplace discrimination, sexual harassment, wage & hour, Family and Medical Leave Act, and disability and accommodation claims, to name just a few.

The Cushing-Gavin Awards are presented annually by The Boston Labor Guild to union officials, management representatives, union or management-side attorneys, neutrals in the field, and other individuals involved in labor relations who have demonstrated the highest standards of moral integrity, professional competence and concern for their community. Recipients are selected by a committee of past winners, with the annual awards based on commitment to collective bargaining, fairness and equity in all workplaces and workplace relations. Named after professional mediator Father Mortimer Gavin and Boston’s highly respected Richard Cardinal Cushing, the Cushing-Gavin Awards have been celebrating the achievements of individuals in the labor-management community for over 50 years.
