Morgan, Brown & Joy Partner Jeffrey T. Collins Appointed to Massachusetts State Ethics Commission

Morgan, Brown & Joy partner Jeffrey T. Collins has been appointed by Governor Maura Healey to the Massachusetts State Ethics Commission. He succeeds former Commission member Wilbur P. Edwards Jr., and joins Commissioners Hon. Margot Botsford, Hon. Thomas A. Connors, Eron Hackshaw, and Patrick Hanley. Collins began his five-year term last month.

Collins is an experienced trial lawyer and litigator who represents management in all aspects of employment law, including advice, counseling and litigation in state and federal courts, as well as before administrative agencies. His practice involves working closely with clients to provide practical advice on hiring, discipline, termination, personnel policies, discrimination, retaliation, leave, contract disputes, and wage and hour compliance. Formerly, Collins served with distinction for 18 years as an Assistant Attorney General in Massachusetts where he tried numerous cases to verdict in state and federal courts, and argued appeals in appellate courts of the Commonwealth. He served as the Deputy Chief of the Government Bureau’s Trial Division, where he was responsible for the handling and supervision of some of the most complex, high profile cases at the Attorney General’s Office.

The State Ethics Commission is a non-partisan, independent state agency which administers, provides advice and training concerning, and civilly enforces the conflict of interest and financial disclosure laws. There are five Commissioners: three, including the Commission Chair, are appointed by the Governor, one is appointed by the Secretary of the Commonwealth, and one is appointed by the Attorney General. No more than two of the Commissioners appointed by the Governor, and no more than three Commissioners overall, may be from the same political party.
