Robert P. Joy

Robert P. Joy is a member of the management committee of Morgan, Brown & Joy having served as Chair from 1994 – 2013. Since he began practicing in 1975, he has handled employment cases before state and federal agencies and courts at every level on a wide range of issues, including successfully arguing Lechmere, Inc. v. N.L.R.B. before the Supreme Court of the United States. He has appeared in employment cases in thirty-six states.

Bob has been an active member of the Labor & Employment Law Section of the American Bar Association and the Massachusetts Bar Association including Chair of the Private Sector Labor Law Committee and the Equal Employment Opportunity Law Committee, as well as two terms on the Labor and Employment Law Section Council. He is the former Chairman of the Litigation Subcommittee of the National Retail Federation for whom he has filed numerous amicus curiae briefs and has lectured and written numerous articles on labor and employment law. Bob was inducted into the College of Labor and Employment Lawyers in 1999 and was named one of America's Leading Business Lawyers in 2003 – 2019 ("masterful attorney"; "ultimate trusted advisor"; "terrific negotiator"; "excellent litigator") by Chambers USA. Bob was named in the top 100 "Super Lawyers" by Boston Magazine and has been selected as one of the nation's most respected lawyers in the 2005 - 2019 editions of The Best Lawyers In America. Bob is also named in the International Who's Who of Business Lawyers.

In 2011, Bob was the Management-Legal Counsel recipient of the Cushing-Gavin Award, an award recognizing labor relations professionals in Massachusetts for their "competency, vision, and integrity they bring to labor relations." In 2012, Bob was inducted into the Litigation Counsel of America at the LCA's Spring Conference and Induction of Fellows in Santa Barbara, California. The Litigation Counsel of America is a trial lawyer honorary society composed of less than one-half of one percent of American lawyers.

Mr. Joy is a cum laude graduate of Dartmouth College and Boston College Law School where he was a member of its Board of Overseers and Business Advisory Council. Bob is also the former President of the Dartmouth Alumni Association of Eastern Massachusetts, and a member of the Board of Trustees of Codman Academy. He served as Chair of the Personnel Board for the Town of Winchester from 2003-2009.
