Amy Carlin to Conduct Employment Law Seminar for Cambridge Local First, Focusing on Small Business Owners and Managers (Cambridge, MA)

Amy Carlin will be conducting an employment law seminar for Cambridge Local First, a network of locally owned and independent businesses in Cambridge.  This seminar will take place on Tuesday, October 19, 2010, from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 a.m. at the Cambridge Historical Society, 159 Brattle Street, Cambridge, MA.  Breakfast and lunch are included.

Many small businesses do not have a human resources department. As a result, small business owners/managers must be knowledgeable about state and federal employment laws that impact their businesses.  The goal of this seminar will be to provide a practical overview of these laws, and to focus specifically on how to avoid difficult and unlawful situations in the workplace that could negatively impact a small business’s viability.  This half-day seminar will cover such topics as legal considerations in hiring and firing, documentation and records retention (what to create, what to keep and what to pitch), performance management of difficult employees, and how to successfully manage other tricky and unique workplace situations that small businesses commonly face.

Registration is limited, and is open now.  This seminar is not limited to Cambridge businesses -- all are welcome.

For more information and to register, please visit the Cambridge Local First website: or contact Janneke House at 857.998.7392.
