LaDonna Hatton

LaDonna Hatton is Of Counsel at Morgan, Brown & Joy, LLP.  LaDonna represents employers in a wide range of employment matters, with a focus on discrimination and retaliation. 

LaDonna joins the firm after 29 years  in public service.  She began her career working in the Appeals Divisions of the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office and the Office of the Attorney General, where her practice focused on constitutional issues.  She has argued many cases at the Massachusetts Appeals Court and Supreme Judicial Court.  LaDonna was appointed Legal Advisor to the Boston Police Department in 1994.  While at the BPD, LaDonna was selected as one of the Ten Outstanding Young Leaders by the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce in 1996.  LaDonna has also served as General Counsel to the Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office, Massachusetts State Police, and Middlesex Sheriff’s Office. 

In addition to providing advice on a variety of law enforcement and civil rights issues, LaDonna advised human resources and other operational managers on a wide range of employment and labor matters, including internal investigations, discipline, discrimination and harassment, retaliation, requests for accommodations under the ADA, and the Family and Medical Leave Act.  LaDonna participated in collective bargaining negotiations with five unions while at the Middlesex Sheriff’s Office, and represented the agency in matters before the Massachusetts Department of Labor Relations.  LaDonna represented state agencies in administrative proceedings before the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination, worked with outside counsel in employment litigation in state and federal courts, and negotiated settlements agreements in employment matters.   

In addition, LaDonna served as Coordinator of Program and Policy Development at the Supreme Judicial Court, and as Undersecretary of Forensic Sciences for the Executive Office of Public Safety and Security.     

LaDonna is a graduate of Case Western Reserve University (magna cum laude; Phi Beta Kappa), and Boston College Law School (magna cum laude).  She is admitted to the bar of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
