Boston Globe Quotes MBJ Attorney on Employer Obligations to Grant Jury Duty Leave

The Boston Sunday Globe’s Job Doc quoted MBJ attorney Dan Field recently in a column discussing an employee’s refusal to accommodate her employer’s request that she postpone jury service to assist another employee who also had been called as a juror. (See the Boston Sunday Globe of 5/11/08).  Although Massachusetts state law protects workers from adverse action by employers on account of their juror service in the state court system, the statute does not specifically prohibit employers from asking employees to defer juror service when another employee is also serving as a juror.

The Globe Job Doc column appears weekly in the Boston Works section of the Boston Globe as well as on the boston.com website.  The Job Doc responds to a variety of reader questions about employment issues and provides guidance on the law covering the workplace.  Dan has been quoted frequently in the column.
