The seminar will be held again this year at the Westin Waltham Boston Hotel in Waltham, Massachusetts.  The agenda for the seminar is as follows:

12:30-1:00 Welcome / Opening Remarks "Mad Men"

We will provide an update straight from the headlines – how does an employer address claims of sexual harassment where the alleged perpetrator is a senior executive or “money-maker” in the enterprise? We will provide an overview from our experience of the particularly difficult problems that arise for human resources professionals when investigating claims, or even rumors, involving the company’s major players.  (Jaclyn Kugell)

1:00 – 2:00  “Last Week Tonight”

What’s New: The Annual Employment & Labor Law Review

We can’t promise that this session featuring our annual review will be quite as sharp and laugh out loud funny as John Oliver’s weekly HBO comedy news show. What we can tell you is that you will leave this session more knowledgeable about the most important emerging issues in the field. (Robert Joy - Moderator, Gregory Manousos, Jeffrey Siegel, Andrea Zoia).

2:00-2:45 “Transparent”

Pay Equity

The Massachusetts Pay Equity Act goes into effect on July 1, 2018.  Is your organization ready?  This session will educate you about what you should be doing now to prepare, including updating hiring processes and other steps that you can take to protect your business from liability once the law takes effect.  (Tracy Boland, Maura McLaughlin).

2:45-3:05 BREAK

3:05-3:50 “Stranger Things”

Federal Labor & Employment Law In the Trump Era

The panel will discuss recent and anticipated federal labor and employment law policy changes under the Trump National Labor Relations Board, U.S. Department of Labor - Wage Hour Division and other federal agencies; the discussion will include evolving NLRB priorities, NLRA enforcement policies and new FLSA overtime regulations, among other topics. (Damien DiGiovanni, Daniel Field, Joseph McConnell).

3:50-4:30  - “Modern Family (Leave)”

The Leave Laws: A Practical Guide

The MBJ Players return to the stage to bring you a performance highlighting the myriad leave laws affecting the workplace, including the state and federal disability discrimination laws, the Family Medical Leave Act, the Massachusetts Sick Leave Law, and more.  The fictional presentation will be rounded out by a summary of best practices and tips for compliance.  (Ryan Jaziri, Jeffrey McAllister, Desiree Murphy – with Jaclyn Kugell).

Please contact Nancy Weymouth at or 617-523-6666 with any questions.

This seminar is free of charge, but advance registration is required.  MBJ reserves the right to limit attendance and priority will be given to MBJ clients.
